Bill McLawhorn gave up farming in 1978 and acquired a former convenience shop. The shop was located just inside the Greenville city boundaries. The sauce's recipe was created by him and his wife Peggy. Both of them started preparing barbecue in the backyard and serving it in the front. They then took the B from Bill and named it B’s BBQ.
Between then and today, something occurred, as things inevitably do. That turned B's into a symbol of eastern-style bbq. It might have been due to its frequent occurrences in:

We have all had BBQ, but trust me when I say you haven’t had BBQ until you have tried B’s BBQ. Their secret recipe is only for the staff to know. It so happens that the only way to become a staff member is to be part of the family. It is completely family run, which is why everything operates so smoothly. They have managed to stay in business for over 40 years! Their BBQ is served with a side of vinegar sauce. This allows it to be more flavorful and succulent. During the pandemic, customers were forced to either take it home or eat in the car. Thankfully, that's all over now and their outside and inside dining is available. But be sure to get there early as doors open at 9am! And once the food is sold out for the day, they close and start prepping for the next day.
