Whether you're new to the area or coming to stay close to the Tar River, Greenville has plenty of exciting things to do. So, buckle up! We're going on a ride around town as we dash through our list of the coolest things to do in the city!

East Carolina University

You don't have to be a student to take advantage of the school. As most locals would likely tell you, Greenville is a college town. The community looks forward to going to games, participating in cultural and arts events, or just checking out the architecture. The school has been around for over 100 years and has plenty of green space to roam around on.

Home of the Pirates, East Carolina University has a variety of sports going on throughout the year, including football, which can be viewed from the beautiful and large stadium overlooking the field.

This is a list of the sports you could catch on campus:

  • Baseball
  • Basketball, both men and women
  • Cross country
  • Football
  • Golf, both men and women
  • Lacrosse
  • Soccer
  • Softball
  • Swimming, women
  • Track
  • Volleyball

Pitt Street Brewing Company

Award-winning Scottish & Irish beer, as well as Irish Red Ale, isn't the only thing you'll get to experience in Pitt Street. This microbrewery is dog-friendly and located on Dickinson Avenue. The taproom has generous spacing as well as a comfortable atmosphere.

They are also known to partner with other businesses around Greenville to host events. Open all week, check on Facebook for upcoming events.

Greenville Convention Center

With over 91,000 square feet of space. This convention center has both the largest and most flexible event options. And meeting options on this side of Eastern North Carolina. There are private and public conventions, meetings, concerts, and entertainment events going on throughout the year. Also, if you love the area and are engaged, the convention center has space for weddings.

River Park North

The famous Tar River offers thrill-seekers a chance to participate in water sports, both calm and cool. River Park North has over 300 acres of land to use with access to the river. For wildlife watchers, there are five ponds that exist as a habitat for frogs, turtles, and even dragonflies. Tickets are $2 for locals or $3 for everyone else. Hours of operation depend on the season. Check online before you make plans. There are also seasonal contests and social clubs that meet on the grounds.

The recreation activities available to patrons include:

  • Sand volleyball court
  • Picnic tables
  • Boat rentals
  • Camping
  • Canoeing
  • Fossil pit
  • Fishing
  • Hiking

Knee Deep Adventures

Get your energy-packed up. When the weather is good, it's time to shake off the stiffness of everyday life and take a walk on the wild side. Knee Deep holds private tours and lessons on Tar River but they also have public events for everyone to get into. Here are some of the more popular events facilitated by Knee Deep Adventures:

  • Paddles & Pints with Pitt Street Brewing. Speaking of Pitt Street Brewing connecting with local businesses, they host the happiest hour in town, which starts with a calm paddle. Starting after 5 pm, check online for available dates.
  • Full Moon Paddle. Slow and steady guided paddling through the night with flashlights and headlamps.
  • Falkland Tour. This is an 11-mile tour down the Tar River. This is a great opportunity to do some bird watching and even take lunch.
  • Dog Paddle. There's really no better way to enjoy the outdoors than with your favorite fur friend, especially when it involves a kayak. A percentage of the proceeds goes towards the dog rescue at Friends of the Pitt County Animal Shelter.
  • SUP Yoga. If you are a fan of yoga or just want to get out on the water without kayaking, this might be the class you've been waiting for. Luckily, you don't need to have any experience in either to participate.

Captain Jack's Miniature Golf

Set sail for one of the more imaginative attractions in town, Captain Jack's is mini golf on another level. Live out your dreams of walking the plank and buried treasure through a round of indoor golf. As one pirate put it, "The owners went out of their way to create a design that adds extra show to the presentation. The course is a challenge but playable at all levels. The pirate theme is like none other." Prices start at $6 per round. Popcorn included.

If this list hasn't motivated you to plan a trip to Greenville, you need to plan one anyway because you clearly have a lack of fun in your life. These are just a few things out of many more to discover in a city that is nestled far enough from the ocean to avoid summer traffic but close enough to feel like a vacation town. No matter what brings you through, you will have a great stay in Greenville, North Carolina.

After getting accepted to ECU, I started looking for things to do in and around Greenville, NC. However, my searches kept taking me to places in South Carolina! There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC. I have fallen in love with this region and started taking up roots here. After graduating, I didn't move away - I bought a house here and continue to explore eastern North Carolina.
