New Bern has a total area of 76.9 square kilometers. Among this area, the land area is 73.1 square kilometers and the water area is 3.7 square kilometers. Birthplace of Pepsi Cola

Visiting the birthplace of Pepsi Cola should be at the top of free things to visit. It is the location where Caleb Bradham initially created Pepsi-Cola in 1898. Here you can learn:

Memorabilia

This place is a great collection of Pepsi memorabilia from different time periods. They also have a huge collection of antique products to look at. It's a very cool place to walk right into history.

Fountain Pepsi

It is probably the cheapest fountain Pepsi a visitor can get. You can sit at the original drugstore counter where Pepsi was invented. From there, you can order the fountain Pepsi.

Popcorn

The freshly made popcorn is delicious to eat. Kids and teenagers will especially love the popcorn. Hot popcorn is very enjoyable while having a walk in the birthplace of Pepsi Cola.

This place has a very nice interior design. There's a small museum-like area with some old Pepsi artifacts. Although this area is not a museum, its collection is absolutely stunning.

They also have a great gift shop with really cute t-shirts and other Pepsi-related items. Everything at the store was very reasonably priced. They also had mountain dew-related things such as hoodies. The size of T-shirts and hoodies are available up to 3xl on some items.

This place is definitely a gem in the heart of New Bern city. It's a great place to stop while walking around downtown New Bern.

Neuse River Recreation Area

Another New Bern free place to visit and enjoy. Plenty of area for the kids to run around. There are many walking trails in this Neuse River recreation area. Some of these walking trails are paved. Plenty of parking facilities are available in this area.

Here, visitors can also do bike riding. It is beautiful for hiking and running also. The trails here are for average to intermediate hikers. The area is very well maintained. The bathrooms are clean. Plenty of shades are available for the visitors to sit, relax and enjoy.

Visitors can also come here for a picnic. There are picnic tables and grill areas in the area. You can have a great view of the river from this place.

Lawson Creek Park

Lawson Creek Park is a beautiful public Park in New Bern City. This park has a huge area of 140 acres. Plenty of parking facilities are available in this park. This park is a great place for walking or running. There are also hiking trails in the park as well.

Visitors can also come here for a boat launch. There are two boat ramps in the park and both of the boat ramps are in great shape. One boat ramp is on the Trent river whereas the other boat ramp is on Lawson’s creek.

Besides boat ramping, visitors can also do kayaking in the park. Lawson Creek Park is also a great place for fishing as well. The park also has many picnic areas. The wildlife of this park is beautiful to watch.

There is plenty of shade available in the park. Visitors can bring their launch here or order them and enjoy it sitting under a tree. A Vietnam War Memorial Wall is also located in the park.

Lawson Creek Park is also a wonderful place to take the kids. They can run, play and do cycling in this park.

New Bern-Craven County Public Library

Visitors can visit this public library. This is a very nice library with lots of current books and magazines. There are activities for kids and tons of room to search, study, and just browse. The staff of this library is very professional and helpful.

Visitors can order books online in this library. The library also has a large collection of ebooks and audiobooks. The library also has computers and access to printers. The library also hosts various events like:

  • Time Out For Toddlers Storytime
  • Friday Virtual Storytime
  • Summer Fix

If you're into books, then visiting this library is definitely something worth doing.
