Festival Goers Wait for the Next Act
The temperatures are rising and so is the need to get outside. Greenville acknowledges the struggle to find something to do, especially during the summer when the kids are out of school. The itch to plan something engaging spikes exponentially towards the end of May.
So, to help give you some inspiration for the next few months, we've put together a list of festivities across Pitt County to check out! Each festival has food and fun but they are all unique enough to make you want to attend each one.
Our favorite museum hosts an annual festival evening of family fun for everyone! All the proceeds from this summer fest will be going to the museum. The funds will be used to help keep GMoA free and to support all the programs going on throughout the year. Included in the festivities will be live music, beverages of every sort, a variety of local dishes, games, a silent auction, a raffle, and more! There's so much going on that the indoor strolling spills outside to the lawn.
This festival is all about the good vibes, musically speaking. The spotlight of talented sounds for the evening falls on Carroll Dashiell. Not sure if a Bluegrass Festival is something your kids will be into? Don't worry, there's no reason for parents to miss it! There is a designated place for children's activities. Of course, also making an appearance will be food trucks, specialty beverages, and other non-profits to get to know. To put Greenville Grooves over the top, there will be a Cultural Marketplace for you to feel free to mosey through.
After 30 years of having community support for GTAC, they are celebrating unity and education now and for years to come during the Juneteeth Celebration. This is a great opportunity for locals and beyond to come in and learn more about what Juneteenth really means both as a holiday and for those who celebrate it. There will be musical performances including a DJ, a wide array of vendors, food trucks, and plenty of learning activities.
Have you ever thought about getting dancing lessons but were too timid or just procrastinate too much? Your perfect night out on the town has arrived! Latin Night will be offering lessons for a number of different dances from 6 to 7 pm. After the lessons are over, you can Cha Cha your way over to the tacos and share a few with your new dance partners. Then, feel free to show off the new moves during the remainder of the night under the stars
Welcome to the largest display of fireworks around! This is sort of an all-day treat for the city. Not only are we celebrating the nation's birthday, but we get to do all kinds of things with our neighbors. Did we mention that the fireworks take place over the Tar River? Yeah, that's the quality event we can all spend time in the sun for. To fill up the rest of the day, there will be live music on the amphitheater stage, games across the lawn, street eats, wine and beer, and plenty of space for you to call dibs in an area for the family.
Whether you're brand new to the area or have lived here all of your life, it's always nice to have an opportunity to explore the neighborhood. What better reason to do just that than to open yourself up to new pieces during art festivals? This event takes place all across the uptown area of Greenville. Even if you've seen these galleries before, there will be new exhibits on display in addition to shops and restaurants that are participating in the Artwalk. You can find a map with a list of which locations are included on their website. Find a new piece of art and a favorite dish all in one!
To sum up a summer of festivals in Greenville, there's a little something each month. From food to music, the city welcomes you to explore what's coming and find a specific taste for your family. Whether you love art (Summer Shindig, First Friday Artwalk), music (Greenville Grooves), or cultural heritage (Juneteenth Celebration, Latin Social Night, Fourth of July Celebration), we can guarantee you have something to look forward to.
If these aren't enough, there are other types of festivals throughout the summer that are just a drive away, such as a BBQ Festival, craft beer festivals, Yadkin Valley Grape Festival, Ocean City Jazz Festival, and Festival of Trees, plus many more across the state to keep you entertained.
