The Atlantic Coast Line's repair facilities led to a construction boom. It lasted from the late 1890s to the 1920s. Elegant homes were built along Falls Road in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They were similar to other main streets close to downtown. Falls Road, which is an extension of Main Street, saw a boom in construction during the 1920s. Large brick homes were constructed for the Park View Hospital's doctors. The first Thorpe marker was put up in 1960. It informed onlookers that Thorpe arrived in the city in 1909. This was to play for the Rocky Mount Railroaders.
He lost his amateur status due to playing baseball in North Carolina. So his gold medals in the pentathlon and decathlon were taken away. About 30 years after his passing, in the early 1980s, his medals were restored.
Late in 2019, there was a report of the marker missing. According to the newspaper, it turned out that the marker had been hit by a contracted lawn care company. They had agreed to pay for a replacement.
According to the state, the replacement was ordered in May 2021. However, there were delays brought on by backup marker requests and a lack of foundry staff. The marker is located along the west side of North Church Street. Close to the intersection with Falls Road.

The large granite wall that borders the front lawn along US 64 gives Stonewall its name. Bennett Bunn was a well-known and successful planter in Nash County. He erected the house on the banks of the Tar River in the early 1830s. Stonewall once served as the hub of a sizable antebellum plantation. It is one of North Carolina's most elegant plantation homes. This is due to its size and sophisticated design.
The Stonewall Manor is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The location can be rented for private events and is available to the public for guided tours. It is located at 1331 Stone Wall Lane, Rocky Mount, NC.
After getting accepted to ECU, I started looking for things to do in and around Greenville, NC. However, my searches kept taking me to places in South Carolina! There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC. I have fallen in love with this region and started taking up roots here. After graduating, I didn't move away - I bought a house here and continue to explore eastern North Carolina.
