Pitt Street Brewing Company, Greenville NC

History

The Pitt Street Brewing Company is located in the center of history. Let’s take a trip down memory lane to first learn about the deep history of their beautiful building.

Their stunning historical building once started off as an old Coca-Cola bottling plant. It was built in 1926 and later renovated with a second story as a new addition in 1935. Since 1982, the building has been mostly vacant. Being an added resource to the Dickinson Avenue National Register of Historic Districts, the building was preserved as much as possible during the recent renovations, inside and out. It has managed to maintain its deep architectural history.

A fun fact is, one of the brewery’s favoured beers is named Ruinenlust, which means “for the love of old, abandoned buildings” in German.

The old building has since been restored to serve as a memorable, kid-friendly community meeting place. The brew house, which has a 15-barrel brewing equipment and is fully visible from the public dining areas, can produce more than 4,000 barrels of beer annually in close to a dozen different variations. Both the outdoor area in the back and the covered bier garden in front are pet-friendly.

Award-Winning: Irish Red Ale

Pitt Street Brewing Company has brought forward the past. Red Irish ale is known to date back to the 14th century. In 2021, they were announced as the Gold Medal winners for best Scottish & Irish Beer. It is now known as “Red Gone Wild Irish Red Ale”.

The Cooler Chronicles: Friends Edition

Who doesn’t love FRIENDS? At the Pitt Street Brewing Company, you’re made to feel welcome just as Rachel did when she left home and moved in with Monica.

On their website they have a section called “THE COOLER CHRONICLES: FRIENDS EDITION”, this is their taproom servers with characteristics very similar to those in FRIENDS. Except, they have two Joey characters, so I guess every night is lady’s night at Pitt Street Brewing Company.

Events

Moving on to events, Pitt Street Brewing Company plays host to a wide variety of events which helps gain more exposure. In the recent past, they hosted:

  • Paints & Pints. The description of this event is in the title. You get a 2 hour painting class and a pint of your choice. This proved to be a very effective and fun way to entertain all adults, not just artistically gifted ones.
  • Paint & Sip. While enjoying a cold one, you have the option to paint your choice of 2 Porch Leaners.
  • Plant Swap. Pitt Street Brewing invited all plant lovers to take in a plant they wanted to swap and hopefully find a new home for it. This initiative helps strengthen our eco system, so well done to Pitts Street Brewing Company.

Their latest upcoming event is on the 23rd of October or should I say Oktober, because it is Oktoberfest! Or also known in Germany as Beer fest! This is for the love of German beer and culture. During Oktoberfest you can experience:

  • Märzen Release
  • Stein Holding Competition
  • German Street Food
  • Live Music
  • Tomfoolery!

So why not take a trip down memory lane to their historical building where you can have the finest beers on tap. Take your friends, your family and even your puppy and head down to 630 S Pitt St, Greenville, NC to experience the adventure, joy and love Pitt Street Brewing Company has to offer.

After getting accepted to ECU, I started looking for things to do in and around Greenville, NC. However, my searches kept taking me to places in South Carolina! There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC. I have fallen in love with this region and started taking up roots here. After graduating, I didn't move away - I bought a house here and continue to explore eastern North Carolina.
