A man so great at what he does, nicknamed “The King”. Richard Lee Petty stands as the most accomplished driver in the history of racing. Winning the Daytona 500 seven times during his 35-year-long career. And over 700 top 10 finishes in his 1,184 starts. But it comes as no surprise that The King was inducted into the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2010.
Richard Petty was born into the sport. His father, Lee Petty, was also a three-time Nascar Champion and won the first-ever Daytona 500 in 1959. The Richard Lee museum showcases the family Nascar Legacy. It was established in 1998.

Northeastern North Carolina’s premier race track is none other than Dixieland Speedway.
Situated just north of Elizabeth City, this oval dirt track has been host to an immense amount of fun since 1983. It is 3/8 of a mile long and 55 feet wide and plays host to racers and race fans from all over the region. There are seats all around the track with protective fencing to keep it safe for all. An eventful night with some friends and a cooler, or some entertainment for the family. Dixieland Speedway has you covered.

Opened in 1993, the 4/10 of a mile asphalt is situated at 8071 Newsome Mill Road Lucama, North Carolina. Before closing down in 2009, it played host to many events such as:
In 2009 the track closed down and re-opened in 2013 after Michael Diaz won the auction in 2011.
In 2020 it announced they would host an ARCA Menards Series East race. It will also host Carolina Pro Late Model Series and SMART Modified Tour race in 2022.

Sporting a 4-mile dirt oval track is the one and only Fayetteville Motor Speedway. What started off as an asphalt track in 1968 for all Fayetteville race fans. Later turned into a dirt track made from red clay. This top-notch race track offers:

After getting accepted to ECU, I started looking for things to do in and around Greenville, NC. However, my searches kept taking me to places in South Carolina! There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC.
