Seaview Crab Company

Seaview Crab Company

The Seaview Crab Company provides the retail seafood market with fresh and locally sourced options. The company was founded in 2006. The founders are three friends who had the dream of providing seafood to their communities. Their names are:

  • Sam Romano
  • Nathan King
  • Joe Romano

They gained interest in seafood, particularly blue crab. What fascinated them was the work it took to farm and harvest them. The process calls for a lot of freedom and raw entrepreneurial experience to catch and place the crabs in the retail seafood market. They preferred to venture into the business of catching live blue crabs and selling them to the community and the public.

When the three friends graduated from college, they attended a crash course in entrepreneurship. Their business started with a few things:

  • 50 crab pots
  • Commercial fishing license
  • One used pickup truck
  • One hand-painted sign that read live blue crabs for sale

For 3 years, they sold wherever they could. They soon enough wanted to expand from roadside bootstrapping. In 2009, they started a company that took over an existing fish market. It was located at 6458 Carolina Beach Road.

The company has had more than 10 years of growth. The trio now has a team of more than 60 fishmongers. The supply chain reaches all corners of the coast of North Carolina and beyond.

They have expanded their service reach to multiple locations in the following areas:

  • Wilmington
  • Sanford
  • Spout Springs

Seaview Crab Company supplies all across America using its Drop Shipping program. They have also extended their business to serve more than 50 local restaurants in North Carolina and its environs. Their Seafood Take out Kitchen was opened recently and operates daily.

Locally Sourced Seafood

All seafood by Seaview Crab Company is locally sourced and diverse. The company offers a variety of seafood options, including:

  • Blue crabs: These are harvested in Southeastern North Carolina. Locations include the Cape Fear River, the New River, and the Masonboro River. According to the season, you can get soft-shelled crabs, hard crabs, and fresh-picked crab meat.
  • Shrimp: Can be found with the head on or off. They are harvested all year round. When the supply tightens, the company brings in shrimp from the Gulf, Florida, South Carolina, and Central America.
  • Panfish: Seaview Crab Company tries to keep fresh panfish available year-round. They freeze them in bulk when they are available in large numbers. It ensures a variety of panfish is offered even when the weather is unfavorable.
  • Inshore medium/large fish: These types include: Pompano, Flounder, Black Drum, Red Drum, Speckled Trout, Gray Trout, and Triple Tail.
  • Clams: The types of clams found are; Littleneck, Chowders, and Topdeck. Clams are consistent and can be found throughout the year. The company buys them from Clam Farms in Virginia and Wild Clam Harvesters in North Carolina.
  • Oysters: There are both wild oysters and garden oysters. The choice and variety depend on the year of harvest, fishing labor, and the weather cycle.
  • Mussels: Northeast Black Mussels are brought in each week. Usually, they are available year-round. Mussels are eaten all over America. The company offers Wild Local Mussels intermittently on customer demand. The mussels have the same taste and texture as local oysters and clams.
  • Crab legs: The market for crab legs is dependent on seasonality, national quotas, and harvest abundance. The types available include; King Crab Legs, Dungeness Crabs Clusters, and Snow Crab (Large and Jumbo).
  • Crawfish: The Live Crawfish are sourced directly from Louisiana. The season begins in March and lasts through June. During the offseason, Seaview cooks and freezes the crawfish made in-house. This allows them to maintain year-round availability.
  • Lobster: The types available are: Live Lobsters, Frozen Lobster Tails, and Claws. Usually, the live tanks have 1.25-pound lobsters. The company can get bigger ones on pre-order.
  • Other fresh and frozen seafood: This includes a variety of seafood options. They include; Alligator Meat, Octopus, Squid (Calamari), Alligator Sausage, Crawfish Pies, Boudin Sausage, Conch Meat, Picked CrawfishTail Meat, House Made Crab Cakes, Small Batch House Made Soups, Haddock, Cod, and Whiting.

The freshest locally sourced seafood.  I brought fresh, salty, briny NC oysters and made an oven-fried oyster Po Boy with spicy remoulade.  The oysters were juicy,  crunchy, and delicious. Can't wait to get more! - Donna Turner via Google Reviews

After getting accepted to ECU, I started looking for things to do in and around Greenville, NC. However, my searches kept taking me to places in South Carolina! There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC. I have fallen in love with this region and started taking up roots here. After graduating, I didn't move away - I bought a house here and continue to explore eastern North Carolina.
