Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q

Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q

In 1964, the first Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q restaurant debuted. This was in the heart of Smithfield, NC under the name Smithfield's.

The building was a large brick box with tin ceilings, fabric umbrellas, and a basin in the dining area. This was so the farmers could clean up before supper. It was situated next to a pre-World War II movie theater.

In 1977, Junius and Maggie Moore launched Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q in Smithfield. Smithfield Bar-B-Q was followed soon after by a second eatery in neighboring Clayton. The business began opening new locations throughout Eastern NC in the early 1980s. In the 1990s it expanded to the Raleigh-Durham region.

One of North Carolina's most prosperous franchisors is Smithfield's. Around 1,200 people work in its 41 eateries. While franchising the remaining eateries, it runs 18 of them. Franchises in Charlotte and Greensboro are the two outliers. The remainder are all located in Eastern North Carolina.

Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q offers:

  • Fried chicken
  • Potato salad
  • Cole slaw
  • Sweetened iced tea

along with barbecue in the Eastern North Carolina style. Here they focus only on giving their customers the best dining experience imaginable.

They are dedicated to:

  • Being outstanding hosts
  • Serving cuisine that is always fresh
  • Quick, and of the highest quality

all the while never wasting time, or food, or forgetting their manners. The staff at Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q are happy to help.

What is their trick? They value authenticity over trends. Every time customers visit Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q they are treated with respect.

Families are welcome in their restaurants, where you may eat in or order takeout. For special events and occasions, they also provide bulk products and party boxes. Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q is the perfect spot if you're looking for a:

  • 1 PT. Bar-B-Q
  • 1 PT. potato salad
  • 1 PT. coleslaw and 1 gallon of tea

Combination White is what I order when I decide to sit in. It comes with:

  • 2 chicken pieces
  • Pulled pork

  • Coleslaw

Bar-B-Q sandwich is for a quick on-the-go when I forget to pack lunch for work. It comes with pulled pork and coleslaw in a nice burger bun.

After getting accepted to ECU, I started looking for things to do in and around Greenville, NC. However, my searches kept taking me to places in South Carolina! There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC. I have fallen in love with this region and started taking up roots here. After graduating, I didn't move away - I bought a house here and continue to explore eastern North Carolina.
