Annual Outer Banks Watermelon Festival

Summertime is incomplete without watermelons. And the Nags Head residents know just how to celebrate both in the best way possible. The Watermelon Festival is a well-established event. It offers visitors everything needed for a summertime celebration. Attendees can celebrate summer by participating in various watermelon-themed competitions. Such as watermelon bowling, watermelon relays, and seed-spitting contests, to name a few. The entrance is free, but you may have to buy game tickets. Nags Head Woods 5K Run – May

An event dedicated to the celebration of Mother’s day. It is also the oldest charity race on the Outer Banks. And all revenues go to regional nonprofits and charitable causes. The Nags Head Woods 5K run allows you to tour North Carolina's captivating Outer Banks. While there, you can take in the breathtaking environment and history. And also dine at the exquisite regional restaurants! On Saturday, May 7, the customary 5K race begins at 8:00 AM. The Village Realty 1-mile fun run, open to children of all ages, takes place between. The 5K track is an out-and-back route through the woods that travels over rolling terrain. Participants can also explore the Nature Conservancy’s Nags Head Woods Ecological Preserve. So, bring your mom and help her win the Fastest Mom on the Beach title by cheering for her! On top of that, all
finishers also receive a medal!

Coastal Gardening Festival – May

The Master Gardener association welcomes all plant lovers to this event. They also hold a huge plant sale that no plant lover can resist. It features a wide variety of plants grown in the Outer Banks regions. From trees, shrubs to vegetables, and house plants, the Master Gardeners have it all. Additionally, several merchants sell a wide range of handcrafted goods. Such as pottery, snacks, and garden art. There are lots of entertaining activities for children too! They can take part in various activities provided by different vendors. The Arboretum is open to all visitors to explore many flowering and native plants of the Outer Banks. Dare Day – June

Every year on the first Saturday in June, a celebration called Dare Day takes place in Manteo, NC. It is an outdoor event that goes on rain or shine. Locals view it as the unofficial start of summer. Dare Day promises free entertainment and events for the entire family. A kiddie train, a magic performance, face painting, games, and more are all available for kids. Adults can stroll around the lovely downtown waterfront and browse the items. Merchants sell furniture, toys, carvings, apparel, wind chimes, and more. The enticing aroma of fresh food fills the air. And here, you can also sip on freshly squeezed lemonades and indelible sweets by locals.

Sunset Festival – June / August

Watching a calming sunset on a beach is one of life's underrated pleasures. And the Jockey's Ridge Sand Dunes on the Outer Banks are one of the best sites to see the sunset in the evening. Grab a kite from Kitty Hawk Kites and fly it while admiring the sunset. From jewelry to sand art, a little bit of everything can be found in the sandbar. This free festival occurs nightly at the Jockey's Ridge Crossing (3933 S. Croatan Hwy. Nags Head, NC). Each weekday upholds a different and unique theme. It offers a one-of-a-kind experience to visitors every time! And if that’s not enough, pair the lovely sunsets with handcrafted ice cream at Jockey’s Ridge Creamery.
