Summer Festival/Festival del Verano

The Festival del Verano is held at the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park. It was hosted by the Wilson Police Department on August 28, 2022. It starts at 1 pm and ends at 7 pm. Admission is free and everyone is sure to have a good time. The Festival del Verano includes various fun activities like:

  • Live music
  • Kids zone
  • Free haircuts for kids
  • Food trucks
  • Dancers
  • Prizes

NC Whirligig Festival

The North Carolina Whirligig Festival was held on November 5th and 6th. At the Historic Downtown Wilson NC. The two-day art festival is a family-friendly event. You will enjoy the main attraction, Vollis Simpson’s Whirligigs which are 20 to 50 feet high. The Wilson community uses the first full weekend of November for this festival. It brings together many art lovers. You will find small business owners, artists, craftspeople, and visitors.

301 Endless Yard Sale

In 2023, the 301 Endless Yard Sale will be held on June 16th and 17th. The yard sale brings together shoppers and dealers from all over the United States. It stretches for more than 100 miles and covers Rocky Mount, Weldon, Wilson, Selma, and Dunn. You will find all kinds of items being sold. Sellers bring kitchen gadgets, clothes, vintage records, and crafts made locally. It is a great place to shop for souvenirs and unique items for gifting your loved ones.

Summer Events Outside of Wilson:

Summer Fest, Youngsville

The 2022 edition of the Youngsville Summer Fest was held on July 30th. It started at 10 am and ended at 10 pm and took place in Downtown Youngsville.

Youngsville is located in Franklin County North Carolina. It will take you 35 minutes to drive there from Raleigh.

The festival is free for all and includes different activities for everyone, like:

  • Wine and beer tents
  • A kids zone
  • Live music
  • Food vendors

Chicken Pickin' Festival, Butner

The Chicken Pickin’ Festival at Butner is hosted by Piedmont Classic Chevy Club. It is a community-based event that is held each year. The festival includes food, retail vendors, and a spectacular car show. There are lots of fun entertainment. The chicken cooking contest is the main event. The chicken pickin’ dance is held before the festival starts.

Pimento Cheese Festival, Cary NC

You will find lots of food trucks at the Pimento Cheese Festival. A lot of the trucks sell from their regular menus, with an added entry of pimento cheese. There is live music to be enjoyed by all at the Downtown Park. This year, it was held on June 11th from 11 am to 4 pm.

Local breweries serve local drinks. You can sample all the pimento cheese you want from local restaurants. The pimento cheese sculpting contest is a fun activity to look forward to.

Washington Summer Festival, Washington NC

The 2023 edition of the Washington Summer Festival will be on June 10th and 11th. The festival offers family-friendly fun in the water and under the sun. It is a community event. The event's sponsor is the Washington Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce.

You will find various vendors selling trinkets that you can take as souvenirs or gifts. The festival includes a magnificent display of fireworks in the glorious night sky.

Arts by the Sea, Swansboro

The Arts by the Sea event is held each year in Swansboro. It takes place on the second Saturday of June. It starts at 9 am and ends at 5 pm. The festival includes amazing arts and fine crafts made by local craftspeople with a view of the sea. The artists line the streets with different artwork they make by hand. Some of the items you will find include:

  • Jewelry
  • Pottery
  • Stained glass
  • Fiber carvings
  • Metalwork
  • Sculptures
  • Photography

You will also enjoy the live local entertainment held at the Harry C. Pugliese “Pug” Pavilion.

Greenville Grooves Music Festival, Greenville

June brings to Greenville a celebration of African-American Music Appreciation Month. The Greenville Grooves Music Festival attracts a diverse crowd of music enthusiasts. You can join them at the Uptown Greenville District. You will enjoy great company, delicious food, and amazing music.

Festival for the Eno, Durham

The Festival for the Eno is also known as EnoFest by the locals. It is an immersive live experience of music, food, and fun. EnoFest returned from a break due to the pandemic. It was held on July 2nd and 4th. The festival's host is the Eno River Association. It is a non-profit that protects the region’s historic resources. The main event is the juried craft show which offers a lot of fun.

Wright Kite Festival, Kill Devil Hills

You can take flight from the same location the Wright Brothers did at the Wright Kite Festival. Wright Brothers National Memorial and Kitty Hawk Kites started this festival.

Come and take a walk where the historic brothers once flew and fly your kite. The festival includes large kites of between 30 and 100 feet. There are free stunt and power kite flying lessons for all interested. Children will enjoy the kite-making station.

Admission for anyone above 16 years is $10. However, it is free to participate in the kite festival/. The event starts at 9 am and ends at 5 pm. In 2022, it was held on July 16th and 17th.

There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC. I have fallen in love with this region and started taking up roots here. After graduating, I didn't move away - I bought a house here and continue to explore eastern North Carolina.
