North Carolina Estuarium - Beaufort County

Visit the first Estuarium in the world! As well as one of the most cutting-edge environmental centers in NC. More than 200 exhibits describe the importance of our estuaries and coastal rivers. These exhibits include:

  • Aquariums with crabs and other estuarine life
  • Interesting and fun artwork with hands-on interactive displays
  • Artifacts from life on the Pamlico River
  • Investigations of hurricanes and sea level rise
  • Pamlico Riverboat tours, and special programs on natural and cultural heritage

The NC Estuarium honors the second-largest estuary on the east coast. It formed when salty ocean waters and fresh river waters converged. This is definitely a one-of-a-kind experience! So pick up your special person and head on over to 223 E. Water St. Washington, NC!

Kayaking On The Cashie River - Bertie County

The Sans Souci Ferry is one of the last operational two-car ferries in the state. It is located on the Cashie, a river that winds more than 20 miles through the County. The Cashie is 20 feet deep on average, but in some places, it can reach 80 feet deep. So, for this one, you have the option of taking your partner on a ferry ride or simply enjoying kayaking.

Kayaking should be easy, enjoyable, and relaxing when done on a date.

Spending quality time together should be the aim of your date. Kayaking, on the other hand, is more about relaxing and recharging. Some kayakers might be motivated by the chance to work on their upper bodies. The majority paddle for enjoyment.

You slow down and pay more attention to where you are and who you are with when you are not constantly distracted.

Unfortunately, for this one, there are only coordinates. Just punch in Cashie River, Bertie County, and your GPS will take you right to it.

Bald Head Island - Brunswick County

Bald Head Island has drawn in explorers ever since the era of notorious pirates. Like Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. Bald Head Island is only accessible by marine vehicle, be that your own private boat or the ferry. It is now the ideal island to spend the day with your partner. The island has everything you could possibly need. This includes everything you love about an unplugged beach vacation or day getaway.

You may use a boat or golf cart to explore this car-free island. You can experience its diverse natural environments. These include:

  • Stunning sand dunes that conceal luxurious beach homes
  • Pristine beaches
  • Maritime forests
  • Wildlife-rich salt marshes

One of the largest sea turtle nesting grounds in North Carolina is located on the island. It has been preserved and is friendly to conservation.

The oldest remaining lighthouse in NC and a well-known landmark, Old Baldy, stands in charge of it all. Without a doubt, the 108-step climb to the top is worthwhile because of the breathtaking view. It's possibly the best vantage point to see how pristine and endearing Bald Head Island is. This plans out for a romantic trip with your partner as well as a much-needed getaway! The ferry to get to the Island is located at 1301 Ferry Road, Southport, North Carolina.

Stand Up Paddleboard At Wrightsville Beach

Based on your level of expertise, Wrightsville Stand Up Paddleboard has lots to offer. In order for you to experience what it's like to walk on water, they offer enjoyable water activities. You can also cruise along the serene Atlantic Ocean. As well as the lovely flat water of southern North Carolina's waterways! All while leaving your worries behind. This activity is ideal for all occasions!

From R. Miller on Google Reviews: This place is fantastic! It was easy to book and the staff was exceptional. Jenna was our guide and she took her time with us “newbies” to paddle boarding. She was encouraging and really helped us relax and have a great time. Well worth the money and we will be back!

Head on over to 96 W Salisbury St, Wrightsville Beach, NC, and check it out!

North Carolina Maritime Museum

Around 1904, a collection of natural history specimens was assembled. This took place at the U.S. Fisheries Laboratory on Pivers Island, North Carolina. However, it wasn't until 1984 that the North Carolina Maritime Museum took on its current form.

The N.C. Maritime Museum expanded its operations in late summer and early fall of 1999. This was to include branch museums in:

  1. Southport
  1. Roanoke Island

North Carolina's coastal history is preserved by the 3 maritime museums in the state. In addition to the usual things you can expect from a maritime museum, you can also expect to see:

  • Underwater archaeology and shipwrecks
  • The seafood industry
  • Marine life
  • Science and ecology

are all depicted in their portraits of maritime history and culture. Each museum is distinct and provides free admission. As well as year-round public programming.

This is a fun, free, and educational thing to do with your partner. Head on over to 315 Front Street, Beaufort, NC, and check it out!

ENC Explorer

After getting accepted to ECU, I started looking for things to do in and around Greenville, NC. However, my searches kept taking me to places in South Carolina! There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC. I have fallen in love with this region and started taking up roots here. After graduating, I didn't move away - I bought a house here and continue to explore eastern North Carolina.
