Things to Do in Outer Banks NC at Night

Things to Do in Outer Banks NC at Night

Cities and towns focus on indoor entertainment. While the Outer Banks focuses more on the outdoors. In the Outer Banks, you can anticipate having an adventure of a lifetime. But I know what you're thinking. Aren't most places closed at night except for the usual bars and restaurants? Well yes. That would be the answer if you were inquiring about a different town. But, in the Outer Banks, nighttime is when you want to be out exploring! Let’s go through my top 5 list of things to do in Outer Banks NC at night.

Ghost Crabbing

Ghost Crabbing is a beach activity that can be done at night. It is excellent fun for people of all ages and creates lasting memories. Family members of all ages will find it simple and fun. While you may see ghost crabs on the beach during the day, the real fun begins at night!

Head on over to any beach after sunset in the Outer Banks area for some ghost grabbing. I would recommend Kitty Hawk as it is more of a quiet beach. Ghost crabs do not like light or sound, so the more secluded the beach the better. All you will need is a flashlight and to be as quiet as you possibly can.

Once the flash hits them, like a deer caught in the headlights, they freeze for a few seconds before running off. This will be your perfect opportunity to snap a few photos for remembrance. But, you need to understand that ghost crabbing is more of a chase activity. Do not poke or try to pick up the crab, they might be small but they will definitely pinch back. So head on over to Kitty Hawk Beach situated at 3840 N Va Dare Trail, Kitty Hawk, NC.

Night Time Kayak Tours

If you enjoy kayaking or simply want to experience it for the first time in a calm environment, then this is for you. Kitty Hawk Kites offers a nighttime kayaking bioluminescence tour. Experience the serenity of the protected waters of the Woods Nature Preserve in a +-2 hour cruise. Take this opportunity to let loose and scream at the moon.

In the summer, the water is warm enough to support the growth of the bacteria that glow. This can be seen at their Nags Head site. It provides excellent visibility if you're hoping to see some luminous fluorescent bacteria. Some days could be tougher to see the bacteria due to Mother Nature's moon cycles.

This is an adventure of a lifetime, so head on over to 7517 S. Virginia Dare Trl. Nags Head in Outer Banks for this one.

OBX Bowling Center

Visit a bowling alley if you're looking forward to some nice conversation! Bowling acts as a great icebreaker for a first date or even when you're just spending time with someone. It can be enjoyed with a partner or in a crowd. The great thing about bowling alleys are they also have other fun activities as well. Light snacking is a must for bowling alleys and OBX Bowling Center is no different.

Here you not only get different types of bowling, you also get a game and an arcade room plus a variety of light meals. Everything happens under one roof! Experience their state-of-the-art interactive scoring system. All while showing off your moves!

On weekdays they're open till 10 and on weekends till midnight, so you can have plenty of fun. Catch them at 200 W Satterfield Landing Road Nags Head.

The Froggy Dog

The Froggy Dog has earned a reputation as a hotspot for nightlife on Hatteras Island. Every week, events like:

  • Pirate Karaoke
  • Music Bingo
  • and Pub Trivia

are arranged to provide adults with enjoyable activities after 9 o'clock.

The bar is the hub of their nightlife. It includes 13 TVs, a sports package, a late-night menu, and an extensive list of wines and specialty brews.

The Froggy Dog is exactly where you want to be if you want a mix of club vibes in a chilled atmosphere. They are situated at 40050 North Carolina Hwy 12, Avon, NC, so check them out.

Night (or Pier) Fishing

The Outer Banks has a ton of more natural nightly entertainment options outside.

Most piers in the Outer Banks stay open until midnight in the summer. This is due to the insomniac character of the native game fish species. Some are actually open 24 hours a day for the dedicated fisherman.

Most pier buildings contain convenience stores that are open as late as the pier itself. You can buy food, beverages, and fishing supplies.

Nags Head Fishing Pier is a great place for couples to take a moonlit stroll. Listen to the waves break and smell the ocean while casting your rod hoping for a big catch. Visitors are welcome to wander the length of the pier.

The pier is also the ideal location for a late-night date. That is if you're looking for a little romance, wink, wink.

I would suggest taking a few coolers, both for refreshments and for taking your catches home. The pier at night is a terrific and family-friendly activity that can be enjoyed by all. Be sure to stop by 3335 S Virginia Dare Trl, Nags Head for this amazing experience.

After getting accepted to ECU, I started looking for things to do in and around Greenville, NC. However, my searches kept taking me to places in South Carolina! There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC. I have fallen in love with this region and started taking up roots here. After graduating, I didn't move away - I bought a house here and continue to explore eastern North Carolina.
