Upon entering the grounds of the site, visitors are greeted by the Visitors Center. It is a large, one-story structure. The center is open every day from 09:00 to 17:00. It gives a thorough overview of the history of the area. From the first settlers of the Lost Colony to the Freedmen's Colony. Freedmen's Colony arrived on Roanoke Island 300 years later.
Visitors can watch a 17-minute video that summarizes the history of the Lost Colony. As well as the efforts made to retrace their steps inside the Visitors Center. Or, they can browse the exhibits. Many of which are artifacts from the original settlements that were found only a few yards away. More treasures were recently discovered. This is a result of excavations that started in 2008. The Visitors Center intends to add more exhibits for visitors in 2013.
Explorers can get a quick overview of the site. But that's only if you visit the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site Visitors Center. It is open to the public and completely free of charge, so start exploring the grounds!

For shipwrecks that occur on the Outer Banks, there is a marine museum. And it comes with a name that gives you chills but also intrigues you. Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. Every year, the museum showcases a new exhibit. However, this isn’t one of those museums that you go to just to appreciate art. This one-of-a-kind museum has activities to keep you entertained.
A scavenger hunt suitable for children and families is one of the daily activities. Here, participants scour the entire museum in search of objects. In addition, they receive special treatment as compensation for their efforts.

After getting accepted to ECU, I started looking for things to do in and around Greenville, NC. However, my searches kept taking me to places in South Carolina! There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC. I have fallen in love with this region and started taking up roots here. After graduating, I didn't move away - I bought a house here and continue to explore eastern North Carolina.
