CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center

This place is one of the cheapest places to visit in Kinston city. The entry fee is only $5 at this museum. This is a very well-developed educational museum. This museum gives the history of the significance of Kinston during the civil war. 

Lots of interesting information is put on display in the museum. The museum visit starts out with a film recapping the history of the building.

There were lots of displays in this museum during the Civil War. Visitors will know about some parts of history that aren’t covered well in the history books. 

The museum tried to cover all aspects of the civil war period. In the museum, there is a display of an old warship. Children will especially find the old warship very interesting. The museum has wonderful curated items on display along with background stories. 

The museum has authentic civil war period soldier's letters and notes. This letter and notes give visitors an idea about the life of soldiers during the civil war. 

The staff of the museum is very knowledgeable. They can tell you about the display in the museum. Overall, this museum is truly a hidden gem in the middle of downtown Kinston. This is a must-visit for any resident or visitor interested in the local history.

Community Council for the Arts

The gallery is located in a huge building with an area of 30,000 sq. ft. It's an old art gallery that has been around for more than 50 years.  The majority of the artwork on display at this gallery is created by local artists. 

The gallery has lots of areas for holding different events. The decoration of this gallery is excellent. The artworks displayed here are very beautiful. You will see the excellent collection of artworks in this display, which includes:

  • Historical artifacts
  • Painting
  • Ceramics
  • Baskets

Visitors can also buy beautiful artwork from here. In addition, this is also a wonderful place to have beautiful pictures of yourself. The background created by the artwork is excellent for photos.

Neuseway Nature Park

This park is located along the Neuse river with an area of 55 acres. It's a super cool place right on the river. It has a huge playground open to the public and slides for children. Some facilities in this park include:

Exchange Nature Center 

Native plants and animals from North Carolina are on display here. Visitors will see lots of animals and birds here, including:

  • Bears
  • Deer
  • Bobcats
  • Venomous as well as non-venomous snakes
  • Talking birds
  • Turkeys

A saltwater touch tank is another feature of the exchange nature center. The exchange nature center has an underground cave. You will see crayfish, iguanas, skunks, etc in the underground cave.

Campground & Picnics

The fantastic campground provides camping, canoeing, and hiking options. It's a great place for a picnic too, and the picnic shelter has arrangements for 100 people. The shelter has picnic tables, fans, grills, etc for picnic arrangements.

Harmony Hall

Jesse Cobb and his wife constructed the house around 1772. The most recent restoration of the house was done in 1984. There is a lot of history here to explore for visitors. Visitors can have an idea about the architecture of the 18th century. 

The house is furnished with items from the 18th and 19th centuries that include:

  • Chairs
  • Old clothes
  • Baby cradle
  • Paintings
  • Extensive doll collection
