Meadow Lights

A short 33.1 miles from Fayetteville is Benson. But you must be wondering why travel to Benson? Well, the little town of Benson offers a great event. Meadow Lights.

The creator of "The Meadow Lights," Mr. Roy D. Johnson, began adorning his house and yard for his kids to enjoy. This was more than 50 years ago, and that is when "The Meadow Lights" first began. This was in 1969!

He added a little more decoration than the year before each time. Others in the neighborhood soon joined in on the fun of the lights. The number of people who came to see the lights increased yearly as they grew. Since then, the lights have expanded from a single decorated yard to over 30 acres of lights. Thousands of people from across the state now visit the event annually. The Meadow Lights is Eastern North Carolina's biggest and oldest holiday light display. A train ride travels through more than 10 acres of the display!

Holiday Lights @ Cape Fear Botanical Gardens

With holiday lighting all over the Botanical Garden, you will love it. The entire garden will be illuminated with lights, becoming a winter wonderland. Put the best season of the year on your calendar. Every display has safety precautions in place and is outdoors.

Take the kids for a mile-long stroll through lovely holiday lights at dusk, complete with:

  • Hayrides
  • S'mores roasting over the fire pit
  • A visit from Santa

Additionally, security precautions are in place for Santa's interactions with all visitors. At Holiday Lights, Santa and the Grinch will be present every night!

Christmas In The Park

Christmas in the Park is held at Arnette Park, a stunning 100-acre site near the Cape Fear River. It combines man-made amenities with natural woodland.

Take your loved ones along for a leisurely stroll on a half-mile paved walking trail. All while as you take in the sights and sounds of the holiday season. You can:

  • Roast marshmallows over a fire
  • Take part in a craft station
  • Enjoy entertainment provided by regional artists
  • Unwind while enjoying some of your favorite holiday films
  • Ride the Christmas Express train

The Poe House Holiday Jubilee

The annual Holiday Jubilee is held at the 1897 Poe House, which is decorated. You can also expect a cooking demonstration on the 1902 Glenwood stove. This event is free. Donations are, however, gratefully welcomed!

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will there to pose for pictures and share holiday tales. Parents are free to take their own pictures. Santa will have a display inside the Cape Fear Museum. Additionally, guests can create their very own scrap ornament to take home.

Dickens Holiday

Dickens Holiday has been celebrated for over 21 years. They have now retired the name to better suit the holiday. It is now called A Season of Light. It is hosted by the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County.

Are you ready for even more fun? Downtown Fayetteville goes beyond with horse-drawn carriage rides as part of its event! Businesses in the downtown area can participate in the fun. They do so by dressing up their storefronts in Victorian garb.

The day will be jam-packed with festivities, including:

  • The lighting of the community holiday tree
  • Candle-lighting
  • Music from roving performers, and flower girl
  • A drone light show

Enjoy a cup of hot cocoa made by The Coffee Cup's staff while at the event. You can be certain that way that you'll be warm while taking in the sights of Downtown Fayetteville.
