St. Patrick's Day marks the feast day of the Irish national patron saint. St. Patrick's Day was introduced to the USA by Irish immigrants. On that day, people organized religious feats and ceremonies. But it has now evolved into a celebration of the culture of Ireland. From New York City to the Chicago river, everything turns green in the United States on St. Patty’s Day. And Greenville is not behind on the celebrations either. So, if you are in or around Greenville, below is a list of some of the best things to do in Greenville NC for St. Patty's Day.
Stumpy’s Hatchet House is a favorite of Eastern North Carolina university students. On St. Patrick's day, the students get in the festival's spirit by indulging in special drinks. This place is famous for wild axe-throwing parties. Often referred to by the students as “darties” as the drinks are 50% off during the festivals. Besides all the drinks, the Hatchet house also organizes various games and activities. Winners of the games stand a chance to win exciting rewards. These fun games and exciting atmosphere makes Stumpy’s Hatchet House a prime location on St. Patty’s Day.
The former Coca-Cola Bottling Company now houses the Pitt Street Brewing Company. The company is famous for its craft beer. The construction of this structure took place in 1926. It then received a two-story expansion in 1935. The brew's innovation comes from imaginative reinventions of traditional styles. Craft beer has the potential to create novel styles never seen before. Even though it makes use of standard ingredients like malted barley.
Because of its new takes on classics, the brewery is quite popular among the locals. The company hosts events and organizes elaborate games on St. Patty's day every year. The menu at the brewery also gets an Irish makeover on the occasion. So you can expect to come across Irish Red Ales, and Green beer. Moreover, Dapple Dog Dry Stout was released on 3/17, and Irish Red Ale Nitro was released on 3/18. You can also find Irish Creamsicle Beer Release on 3/20.
A.J. McMurphy’s was the first ever Irish-themed pub in Greenville, North Carolina. They provided authentic food and drinks in a friendly and welcoming setting. On St. Patrick's Day, Pitt County residents visit the restaurant for a plate of corned beef and cabbage. And of course, their preferred beverage. A.J. McMurphy’s is the oldest place to celebrate St. Patty’s day in Greenville.
Every year A.J. McMurphy’s celebrates St. Patty's Day in a unique way. You can expect to see a Greenville Public Safety Pipes and Drums performance at this place. The traditional group tours Pitt County playing bagpipes while dressed in kilts. Pipe Major John R. Tyson and Pipe Sergeant Scott Stanton are band members. Band Manager James Fletcher and Drum Sergeant James Fletcher are also present. The events and performances hosted at the place attract the whole city to the McMurphy’s. In fact, since the place is the oldest Irish pub, visiting it on St. Patty’s day is an unspoken tradition in Greenville.
St. Paddy’s Day Pub Crawl is a special event for runners all across Greenville, North Carolina. Fleet Feet organizes this event. Around 30 to 35 people register on a first-come, first-served basis for a marathon around the city. This group tours the most famous and renowned breweries in the spirit of St. Patty’s day. The cost of registering with the club varies between $20 to $25, including the price of beers at all stops.
The marathon starts at 6 pm at the Uptown Brewing. The first stop is at Jarvis Bottle Shop, where the group enjoys a beer. The crawl continues to Mpourium on Dickenson Ave. wh, ere there is another beer! From Mpourium, the group crawls to 5th street Hardware and circles back to Uptown Brewing. The marathon makes up a total of 3 miles and entails a lot of fun for runners and beer enthusiasts alike.

Special menu items - "The Sloppy McGuiness". This features the Nooherooka beef and Guinness Stout on a Burger Bun. It also contains mashed potatoes, fried onion, and Irish cheddar.
After getting accepted to ECU, I started looking for things to do in and around Greenville, NC. However, my searches kept taking me to places in South Carolina! There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC. I have fallen in love with this region and started taking up roots here. After graduating, I didn't move away - I bought a house here and continue to explore eastern North Carolina.
