Things to Do in Wilmington NC in Summer

The beach, the sun, the waves… there’s nothing like a summer vacation in Wilmington NC! But what is there to do when you’re not soaking up the rays? Let’s find out!

Battleship North Carolina

Did you know that Wilmington has the most decorated battleship in the USA? Battleship NC is from the World War 2 era, construction took 4 years! Time and effort were definitely put into it. Battleship NC offers tours all year round and summer is their most popular time. Tours are greatly priced, especially because Battleship NC offers:

  • Nine decks where history comes alive
  • See first-hand how crew members had to live on board and their living quarters
  • Get up close and personal with gun torrents from WWll

However, the Battleship NC tour is more than a fun summer adventure. Here you get to learn more about history through the tour guides and the exhibits. Battleship NC is a piece of history that will always be celebrated in honor of those brave sailors. Whether you're a history buff or just looking for a unique summer experience. Battleship NC is definitely worth a visit! So head on over to 1 Battleship Road NE and experience it for yourself!

1. Wine tastings

2. Tours of the vineyard

3. A wine club

Every day of the week, they provide wine tasting. You can choose from up to 50 unique wines that have won awards internationally! Some of the great ones are:

  • True Italian reds
  • Mouth-watering whites
  • Fruity wines
  • Sumptuous dessert wines

Everyone can find something here! Because of this, Noni Bacca Winery is the Cape Fear region's top pick for wine enthusiasts. So if you’re looking to quench your thirst on a hot summer's day, then head on over to 420 Eastwood Rd #108 today!

Disc Golf

Looking to just spend some time outdoors with friends and family? Without actually having to dress up and “go out”? Well then, Disc Golf is for you! Disc golf is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise. My personal top 3 locations for disc golf are:

1. Arrowhead park is situated at 720 Arnold Rd, Wilmington, NC.

2. Castle Hayne Disc Golf Course located at 4700 Old Ave, Castle Hayne, NC, which is only 10 miles away!

3. Trinity Disc Golf @ Good Hops which is located at 811 Harper Ave, Carolina Beach, NC, and is less than 12 miles away.

Disc golf is a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. It is inexpensive to play, and you can usually find a game to join. Even if you don't have your own group of friends to play with. So head on out and make some new friends at Disc Golf!

Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park

Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park is one of Wilmington's most popular summer attractions. The park features a wide variety of water rides, including a lazy river, several slides, and a wave pool. There is also a playground, arcade, and snack bar. And if you’re not up to be getting wet, then head on over to their:

  • Laser tag
  • Jungle golf
  • Mini-bowling or even their rock climbing wall

Jungle Rapids is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. Admission varies on your age. So, the best bet would be to head on over to 5320 Oleander Dr, Wilmington, NC, and check it out for yourself!

Carolina Beach Boardwalk

Spanning over half a mile, the boardwalk has shops, restaurants, and attractions. Making it the perfect place to spend a day.

Some of the most popular shops on the Boardwalk include Island Tackle and Hardware. Which sells all sorts of beach gear and supplies. The Fat Pelican offers around 350 different beers. And, locally-owned Stalls, which has a wide selection of souvenirs and gifts!

There are also several restaurants on the boardwalk, including:

  • Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar. An iconic seafood restaurant that has been serving locals and visitors for the last 10 years
  • Celtic Creamery. which specializes in delicious ice cream treats
  • High Tide Lounge & Tiki Bar. Where you can enjoy a meal or drinks while watching the waves crash against the shore

Besides shops and restaurants, there are also plenty of attractions on the Boardwalk. My two favorites are the amusement park, which has rides and games, and the Giant Ferris Wheel!

April Luper mentioned in her review “Was a lot of fun. They have beach access, rides, arcades, dining, shopping. Everything for everyone”. The amount of entertainment at Carolina Beach Boardwalk is unmatched! So head on over to Carolina Beach Ave S, Carolina Beach, NC, and check it out!

Airlie Gardens

We’ve had some pretty exciting things so far on this list, but nothing calming and romantic. So what about surprising your special person with a loving and romantic picnic? After all, isn’t that what truly makes summer so great?

Pick up some ice for your wine bucket and a tasty snack and head over to Airlie Gardens for a romantic picnic! Airlie Gardens has beautiful picnic spots and more plants than you can imagine! And when you’re tired of lying under the sun, tour the beautiful gardens. A self-guided tour alone will take around 1.5 hours but you will remember it for a lifetime!

This sounds great, doesn’t it? Head on down to 300 Airlie Rd, Wilmington, NC, and spend the day at Airlie Gardens.

Don’t forget your sunblock for your fantastic summer in Wilmington, NC!

After getting accepted to ECU, I started looking for things to do in and around Greenville, NC. However, my searches kept taking me to places in South Carolina! There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC. I have fallen in love with this region and started taking up roots here. After graduating, I didn't move away - I bought a house here and continue to explore eastern North Carolina.
