The Pitt Street Brewing Company is located in the center of history. Let’s take a trip down memory lane to first learn about the deep history of their beautiful building.
Their stunning historical building once started off as an old Coca-Cola bottling plant. It was built in 1926 and later renovated with a second story as a new addition in 1935. Since 1982, the building has been mostly vacant. Being an added resource to the Dickinson Avenue National Register of Historic Districts, the building was preserved as much as possible during the recent renovations, inside and out. It has managed to maintain its deep architectural history.
A fun fact is, one of the brewery’s favoured beers is named Ruinenlust, which means “for the love of old, abandoned buildings” in German.
The old building has since been restored to serve as a memorable, kid-friendly community meeting place. The brew house, which has a 15-barrel brewing equipment and is fully visible from the public dining areas, can produce more than 4,000 barrels of beer annually in close to a dozen different variations. Both the outdoor area in the back and the covered bier garden in front are pet-friendly.
Pitt Street Brewing Company has brought forward the past. Red Irish ale is known to date back to the 14th century. In 2021, they were announced as the Gold Medal winners for best Scottish & Irish Beer. It is now known as “Red Gone Wild Irish Red Ale”.
Who doesn’t love FRIENDS? At the Pitt Street Brewing Company, you’re made to feel welcome just as Rachel did when she left home and moved in with Monica.
On their website they have a section called “THE COOLER CHRONICLES: FRIENDS EDITION”, this is their taproom servers with characteristics very similar to those in FRIENDS. Except, they have two Joey characters, so I guess every night is lady’s night at Pitt Street Brewing Company.
