We all get excited for St. Patty’s day. Especially in the U.S., it’s one big party. However, have you ever wondered who St. Patrick is? Before I tell you about all the things to do in Eastern NC for St. Patty’s day, let’s answer that question.
One of the most well-known personalities in Christianity is St. Patrick. He is also the patron saint of Ireland. Little is known about his life. Despite the holiday that bears his name and is celebrated on the day of his passing.
Legends surrounding St. Patrick's are thought to be myths. The well-known one of him driving out all snakes from Ireland are thought to be a myth. St. Patrick was born in Britain to rich parents. When he was 16 years old, Irish raiders attacked his family's estate and took him, prisoner. He was moved to Ireland, where he was held captive for six years.
He was distant from people and worked outside as a shepherd throughout this time. He resorted to his faith out of loneliness and fear, becoming a devoted Christian.
Patrick managed to escape from prison after more than six years. His writings claim that in a dream, a voice he took to be that of God told him “it was time to leave Ireland.”
Patrick traveled over 200 kilometers on foot to reach the Irish coast from County Mayo. Patrick claimed to have had a second revelation after making it to Britain. In a dream, an angel advises him to go back to Ireland as a missionary. Soon after, Patrick started his lengthy, more than 15-year religious education.

He knew the Irish language well. This is why he chose to include Irish beliefs in his teachings on Christianity. Rather than toss them out. He also embellished the Christian cross with a potent Irish symbol. The symbol of the sun produced what is now known as a Celtic cross. Every year, a parade is held in honor of St. Patrick's Day. It starts at Bladen Street and South Virginia Dare Trail at Mile Post 11.5 in that direction. Normally, it makes its way north to Driftwood Street. At Admiral Street, the parade will come to an end.

After getting accepted to ECU, I started looking for things to do in and around Greenville, NC. However, my searches kept taking me to places in South Carolina! There must be things to do around ECU, so I started asking other students. They kept telling me to graduate and move away! This inspired me to begin exploring eastern North Carolina and build this website as a showcase of the places to go, sights to see, and things to do all over eastern NC. I have fallen in love with this region and started taking up roots here. After graduating, I didn't move away - I bought a house here and continue to explore eastern North Carolina.
